sitting in on a staff meeting

Pretty much every Tuesday morning, the WCC staff sits down for our weekly meeting. While a lot of the things we talk about aren't necessarily scintillating in nature (it takes a lot of detail work to keep things running smoothly), we still have a ton of fun. And we also have some great conversations, too - so I wanted to let you "sit in" on yesterday's.

We we talking about an article we had read about how churches are struggling with attendance, and one of the points was that people simply don't see the benefit of attending church. So we started listing what we saw as some of the benefits:

1. We can experience corporate worship. While we can worship alone, there is something powerful about being in a room full of other worshipers that can't be replicated in any other form.

2. We can have meaningful conversations about things that matter. We can offer and receive wisdom, encouragement, and perspective.

3. We can enjoy community. Relationships are core to who we are as people - and having friends who share our beliefs and values is so important. Sunday is a good chance to catch up.

4. We can take a moment to rest, reflect and recalibrate. Sometimes we need to literally move into a space where we can step away from the stress and busyness.

5. We can connect with God. While God is omnipresent, he is also a God of "places." Being in church gives us a place to experience God in the moment.

6. We can get spiritually challenged and /or recharged. It's a little like going to the gym; sometimes it doesn't feel good in the moment, but you are always glad that you did.

What else would you add to the list?
