United in Purpose

Ephesians 2:8-10

What is the purpose of my life?

What am I made for?

Because God  is so kind, you have been saved because you trusted Him. It was not because of what you did that God saved you, but what He did was a gift. It is not as a result of your own efforts in order that no one may brag.  Since we are in union with Christ Jesus, God has now created us for the  purpose of a life of good deeds, which He had already prepared for us to do, so that we may walk in them. 

Humans have a built-in purpose

Our purpose is a life of good deeds... which God had already prepared for us to do.

Good works restore order to creation.

"...have not been saved by your work...  but because you trusted God."

Human effort cannot save you, but only your loyal love to God

Work is not the means to salvation, but rather it's the result of salvation.

What is GOOD WORK?

- It spends energy

- It helps others

- It glorifies God

Salt is only good if it's spread out

That means God is involved in it all.

The first churches didn’t center around worship music and a sermon but around a meal

"So that you may live in a manner worthy of the Lord, to please him in all respects, bearing fruit in every good deed and increasing in the knowledge of God"

"And let us think about how to stir one another up to love and good works, not abandoning our meeting together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging each other, and by so much more as you see the day drawing near." 

"In the same way let your light shine before people, so that they can see your good works and glorify your Father who is in heaven."

Engagement and discipleship should be the goal, not attendance.

Churches that equip Christians will eclipse churches that gather them.

We don’t have purpose because we are united we are united because we have the same purpose.
