How can people tell that we're Christians before we ever tell them? Using the familiar Christian fish symbol as a starting point, this message turns to 1 Peter to explore what should truly identify a follower of Jesus. Peter reminds believers that we are "foreigners and exiles" in this world—people whose deepest identity and allegiance belong to Christ rather than the surrounding culture. Instead of simply displaying the symbols of Christianity, we're called to live differently in ways that make Christ visible through our character and conduct. Through the simple framework of F-I-S-H, we'll discover what this kind of life looks like: identify as a foreigner, live a life of integrity, model a spirit of submission, and honor others. Rather than withdrawing from culture or trying to force it to change, Peter challenges us to live such good lives among those around us that our integrity, good deeds, humility, and respect point people toward God.
