Let's just get right to the point today.

Today's wisdom:

Don't be in a hurry!

That's difficult to hear, especially in today's world.

Author Richard Swenson wrote this:

"Just take a look at our lives...
We send packages via Federal Express
Use a phone company called Sprint
Manage our finances with Quicken
Schedule our appointments in a DayRunner
Diet with Slim Fast
And swim in trunks made by Speedo!"

We're definitely in a hurry.  But is this wise?

19:2

It is not good to have zeal without knowledge,
Nor to be hasty and miss the way.

Wisdom doesn't live rushed.

Wisdom takes time to think, to ponder, to plan.

Wisdom realizes that passion needs to follow purpose, not precede it.

Wisdom knows the value of taking time.

Read Proverbs 19

Solomon has lots of company when it comes to pithy sayings regarding haste:

  • "Haste makes waste."
  • "Look before you leap."
  • "Rome wasn't built in a day."
  • "Don't confuse what is urgent with what is important."

When we get in too much of a hurry, we make mistakes.  We fail to think through the implications of an action.  We rush to judgment without the facts.  We make decisions that we end up regretting.  We trade the future for the present.  And we get off track.

As hard as it is to slow down ... that might just be the wisest thing to do today.  Most things can wait a little longer. Where do you feel rushed?  Why not take a moment?  And then another moment, if you need to.  Because too much haste and you might really mess things up.
