Maybe you have a favorite holiday, like Christmas or Valentine's Day or even your birthday.  But my favorite holiday is Easter.  These are some of reasons that I love Easter (beside robin eggs):

  • Easter reminds me that the story is never over.  Even Jesus' disciples thought everything was finished, when, in fact, it was just getting started.  When I want to give up, Easter reminds me not to.  Easter is about hope.

  • Easter reminds me that I will see loved ones again.  One of the things I look forward to most is reuniting with loved ones again someday, and Easter guarantees that - like seeing a daughter and my parents, and even friends that I have lost.  Easter is about eternity.

  • Easter reminds me that God can handle anything.  The world seems pretty chaotic right now - with wars and pandemics and social unrest.  But none of those things is a threat to God.  He is still in control - and evil will be defeated!  Easter is about victory.

  • Easter reminds me of how much Jesus loves me.  He came as a baby.  He came for the cross - and the resurrection.   And he came with me in mind.  Easter is about being loved.

  • And Easter reminds me of what is really important in life.  If it's not going to last beyond the grave, it really doesn't matter.  The things that matter, matter forever.  Easter is about perspective.

  • And Easter reminds me that humanity matters.  Jesus died as God, but also as a man.  And he rose again as God, but also as a man.  With a body.  That will live forever.  And that he will live in forever.  Someday there will be another resurrection - when our souls and our bodies are reunited, and then we will live forever.  Easter is about restoration.
