Predictions and Prayers

Maybe it's a thing of the past - but I remember various columnists and news agencies making predictions for the next year every time a new January rolled around.  Some were meant to be fun; others were more serious.  But I always found them enjoyable to read.  Yet, I just did a google search for 2022 and found next to nothing.  Sadly.  I guess people aren't into predictions any more?

Maybe it's because people are simply afraid that the next year is just going to be more of the same, and just like the past two years have been. Maybe it's because they are feeling pessimistic and can't think of anything good to predict. I don't know. But someone needs to make some predictions!

So here I am, stepping up in a big way to meet the need!

 I predict in 2022...

  • that Jim Harbaugh will wear the same outfit for every U of M game
  • that we will have at least one big snowstorm (and that it will unfortunately happen on a Wednesday or Sunday)
  • that people will stop using the word pivot because it has been so overused in the past two years
  • that some people will be able to live off their COVID stock piles of TP well into the summer
  • that Tom Brady will still be quarterbacking in the NFL next fall
  • that Pizza Hut will come out with yet another weird pizza idea
  • that political campaign debates will be replaced with arm wrestling contests (maybe not, but it would be more fun)
  • that God will still be God, that the Bible will still be true, and that life will still be worth living
Let's be honest.  The past two years have been hard.  But there has still been a lot of good.  And just because the past two years haven't been all that we might have hoped for, we can still look forward to the one that is coming with positive anticipation - because God IS still God, and is still in control and is good and kind and loving.  He also has a plan, and even in the middle of mess that we find ourselves in he is at work - both around us and in us.  And that is something to be excited about!

Honesty, none of us has the ability to predict the future (who among us would have predicted that past two years), but we do have a reason to show confidence in stepping into this next year.  So instead of predictions - how about if I suggest some prayers for 2022!  These are prayers for you, for our church, and for our world.
